chapter 10: the worlds of christendom

  • "Eastern Orthodox Christianity had a pervasive influence on every aspect of Byzantine life. It legitimated the supreme and absolute authority of the emperor, for he was a God-anointed ruler, a reflection of the glory of god on earth"(418).
    • To my understanding, the emperor usually had he highest power and was believed to be the chosen won. The Romans were also orthodox and believed that whatever they believed was right. The Christians were all about getting to heaven and the after life. The Byzantine empire has churches all around that included religious paintings, art, usually involving Jesus and Mary, and saints. They believed they brought great faith to the church.
    • I tell myself I’m a catholic just because my parents are Catholics, but other than the point, when I visit the church I used to always go as a child I always go be the art amazing. There are masterpieces on thw wall behind the chapel that portrays Jesus and how he suffered for our sins. There are stained windows that tell bible stories and the stations of the cross. The religion has expanded more than just its belief and spreading it, but also how it it’s portrayed. Art, music, preaching, and classes for the Roman Catholics were a common practice and seem to continue today.
