Chapter 7: commerce and culture
- This chapter talks about the silk road which was one of the worlds most extensive and network of exchange but made a huge impact in trade. Things that were traded were agricultural products and manufactured goods which allowed the trading networks to do better. Products or being exchanged between the inner and outer Eurasia and link to civilizations on the western and eastern side of Eurasia.
- Silk was used as currency instead of money as it was highly desired everywhere. Although silk was one of the positive trade there was also negative side. there are many diseases coming in and out on a sock Road the lead to death which contributed to the fall of Rome.
- The Indian Ocean network became highly important and was also cheaper to trade on the sea.
- I think one of the coolest thing about this chapter is how we as people are everywhere around the world contribute to trade and it’s evolution. The sock Road in the Indian ocean network was like the start of something new and better. The Silk Road had its highs and lows, with its deaths due to diseases, but so did the plague which basically wiped out communities.
